- Return messages ASAP – The most successful real estate agents are the ones who respond to inquiries the fastest. There are a lot of realtors out there, and would-be clients tend not to wait around for one agent to return their calls. To be successful in real estate, you need to be on the ball and respond to every inquiry ASAP.
- Explain things to your clients – Like any business relationship, the relationship between a realtor and their clients relies on trust. Many homebuyers and sellers don’t fully understand all the ins and outs of the real estate process, and it is easy for them to feel like their agent isn’t telling them everything when things don’t get explained. Successful realtors explain every step of the process to their clients and answer their questions. Doing so builds trust between real estate agent and client, and makes the client more likely to recommend working with said agent to their friends and family (remember, many real estate clients come from referrals!).
- Know your neighborhood – A real estate agent should know the neighborhoods they work in, and it becomes quickly obvious which ones don’t. It won’t take long for potential homebuyers to figure out when a real estate agent is just listing off a series of talking points about a neighborhood, and which ones have genuine knowledge of the area. If you sell homes in a certain neighborhood, get to know it well enough to feel comfortable talking about it and the people who live there. Your clients will be able to tell the difference, and the better you’re able to describe a neighborhood, the better you’ll be able to make a real pitch for the benefits of living there.
